Road improvement schemes B175 Ballylough Road and Drumaroad Hill, Ballynahinch

Work on two carriageway resurfacing schemes on the B175 Ballynahinch to Castlewellan route will commence on Monday 5 September 2022.

The schemes will involve the resurfacing of a 900 metre stretch of the Ballylough Road from the Ballywillwill Road junction to the Aghlishnafin Road junction at a cost of £335,000 and the resurfacing of a 1.3 kilometre stretch of Drumaroad Hill from the Ballynahinch Road junction to the Demesne Road junction at a cost of £425,000.   

This work, which will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this route to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling between Ballynahinch and Castlewellan, is expected to completed by Friday 11 November 2022.

To facilitate the works it will be necessary to implement weekday road closures for the duration of the works from Monday 5 September 2022 to Friday 11 November 2022.  From Monday 5 September 2022 to Friday 11 November 2022 the closure will be from Monday to Friday from 09.00 am to 4.30 pm, daily.  Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times.  The roads will remain open on weekends.

During these times a signed diversionary route via Ballylough Road, Ardnabannon Road, Castlewellan Road, Main Street, Newcastle Road, Drumaness Road, Drumaness Road, Spa Road, Dunmore Road and Edendarriff Road and vice versa will be in place.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, however, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions. 

Subject to favourable weather conditions all work will be completed by 11 November 2022, however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change.

All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
