£270,000 resurfacing scheme for the A2 Bloomfield Road Roundabout, Bangor

A £270,000 resurfacing scheme on the A2 Bloomfield Road Roundabout, Bangor will commence on Sunday 26 September 2021.

Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said:

“This significant investment on one of the busiest roads in Northern Ireland will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this key transport link.  This will benefit all who use it including businesses and residents in the area.  I would like to thank the travelling public and local residents in advance for their cooperation while these much needed works are completed.”

The improvement work involve the resurfacing of the Bloomfield Road Roundabout and its immediate approaches.

To complete the scheme safely traffic management measures will be in place from Sunday 26 September until Thursday 7 October 2021.

The traffic management measures will involve night-time closure of the Bloomfield Road Roundabout. On Sunday 26 September and Sunday 03 October, these closures will extend from 7.00 pm to 6.00 am. From Monday 27 September to Thursday 30 September and from Monday 4 October to Thursday 7 October, the closure will run from 8.00 pm to 6.00 am.

During these times a diversion will be in place. The traffic will be diverted along the C252 Gransha Road, U134 Balloo Road and A21 Newtownards Road. Access for local residents and Bloomfield shopping centre will be maintained.  

The road will be open to traffic outside these hours, there will be no closures in place on Friday and Saturday nights.

Local access for residents, and users of schools, and emergency services will be maintained at all times during the works.

The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public. Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the closure.                    

In order to help ensure the safety of road users and road workers, the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and to take extra care when travelling in the vicinity of the works.

Substantial Completion of the work by 7 October 2021 is dependent on favourable weather conditions.  The Department will keep the public informed of any change.  All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of work in place for staff and contractors.
