A £80,000 resurfacing scheme is due to commence on 19 October 2020 on the B523 Chapel Road, Derry.

Lane closure during resurfacing work

The works will commence near the Spencer Road junction and progress southwards to Fountain Hill for a distance of approximately 500 metres and will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the road and footways.

The kerbing and drainage work will be carried out under temporary traffic control measures between 8.00 am to 5.00 pm from Monday 19 October to Friday 23 October.

A full road closure shall be required from 8.00 am on Monday 26 to 6.00 pm on Tuesday 3 November 2020 to facilitate the resurfacing works.

A diversion route will be signposted via U 1500 Spencer Road, A1002 Duke Street, A1002 Waterside Link, A1002 King Street, A6 Glendermott Road, A6 Dungiven Road, A6 Altnagelvin Roundabout, A514 Irish Street and B523 Irish Street.  Local access for residents will be maintained although delays can be expected.

The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience to the public.  The public is asked to avoid the area whenever possible and to allow extra time for their journey.

In the interests of public safety and the safety of the contractors workforce the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and to drive with extra care when travelling in the vicinity of the works.

Completion by 30 October 2020 will be dependent on favourable weather conditions, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.  All work will be carried out in line with current public health and safety advice with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
