O’Dowd welcomes £16m capital boost

Every pound invested in infrastructure will deliver a positive difference for communities here.

DfI latest news

That was the view expressed by Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd following yesterday’ s news that £16m of additional capital funding has been allocated to the department.

John O’Dowd said:

“Infrastructure delivers for people every day by providing and maintaining what we all need to go about our daily lives. Everything we do and everything we plan to do in terms of delivering positive and transformative change needs the right infrastructure in place first to make it work – or in other words, it all starts here.

“My department has been operating with a limited budget, due to British Government austerity and cuts, for far too long and now is the time to start to address those shortfalls. The extra capital allocation which was confirmed today will be used for repairs to roads which are in the most need, while NI Water will also get an additional allocation for investment in much needed water and wastewater capital projects.

"Translink will also benefit with funding going towards their zero emissions bus replacement programme, the transport hub and health and safety works.

“I will continue to look for more funding to allow us to deliver positive changes for the North.”
