Date published: 16 July 2024

Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd has announced that a £350,000 footway and carriageway resurfacing scheme on the Kings Road, Belfast is due to commence on Thursday 18 July 2024.

Raking whilst resurfacing a footway

This scheme will resurface the full length of the road between the A55 Knock Road to the Gilnahirk Road ,  greatly improving the strength and surface quality on this section of the road network to the benefit of all road users who travel through the area.

To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement a continuous One-Way Closure westbound from Gilnahirk Road to Knock Road from Thursday 18 July until Sunday 18 August 2024. Access and egress for residents will be maintained.

Final resurfacing work will also be carried out over five consecutive Sundays from 18 August to 15 September 2024 which will require road closures from 8.00 am until 8.00 pm.  During times of closure a diversion route will be signed using Gilnahirk Road – Lower Braniel Road – Glen Road and Ballygowan Road.

The Department for Infrastructure has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however motorists should expect delays and allow additional time when planning any journey.

Subject to favourable weather conditions the scheme is expected to be completed by 15 September, however the Department will keep the public informed of any changes.
